Visitor Support Services
Visitor Support Services includes Practical and Family Support services which help new mums cope, and Community Visitors Scheme, which provides friends for older people in residential care.
Family Support Service

The Family Support program assists families with multiple births and/or where the mother is experiencing, or at risk of postnatal depression.

Family Support offers respite and practical assistance to a parent by placing a trained volunteer into their home to give them a helping hand for approximately 4 hours one day per week.
Family support assists new mums with multiple births or postnatal depression

New mums with multiple births or postnatal depression are given support.

Volunteers will be able to use skills and experiences in assisting the parent with child related tasks and offer companionship to families who are isolated. Volunteers are important role models by being confident and competent in working with babies and toddlers, which can make an enormous difference to a family.

The service currently works with families in Perth, Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton, Dunsborough, Margaret River and Augusta. All new Family Support volunteers need to attend an introduction workshop which will comprehensively cover the role and all aspects of the service. If you would like more information please phone 9225 1946 or email us on wafamilysupport@redcross.org.au.

Practical Support Service
The Practical Support program helps women who are experiencing, or at risk of, perinatal mental health problems and are facing challenges of looking after a baby or toddler while managing the family home.

This program is aimed at increasing the ability of mothers to cope. This is done by providing support, building skills and improving self-confidence by developing household management and childcare routines and linking in with community support groups and social networks.

Practical Support workers or volunteers visit the family home weekly and work alongside the mother assisting in domestic duties such as light housework, shopping and basic childcare e.g. feeding, settling babies, and preparing meals for children.

The service currently works with families within the Local Government boundaries of Belmont, Canning and Victoria Park and Bunbury. All new Practical Support volunteers need to attend an introduction workshop which will comprehensively cover the role and all aspects of the service.  If you would like more information please phone the Practical Support Program Coordinator 9225 8808 or email us on wafamilysupport@redcross.org.au

Community Visitors Scheme
Do you enjoy talking to people? Do you have one hour per week to spare? The Community Visitors Scheme is a Federal Government initiative administered by Red Cross in rural areas of WA and some suburbs in the Perth North Metropolitan area. Many residents in nursing homes are isolated and lonely and do not have regular visitors. This program involves a volunteer visiting a resident to provide companionship and support. Times are flexible.

To find out more about the Community Visitors Scheme telephone (08) 9225 8888 or email wainfo@redcross.org.au. Make someone smile today.
