Community Services  
Carer Respite Centre  
Carer Respite Centres help those who are looking after a relative or friend who is unable to manage without help due to frail age, disability, mental illness or palliative care.  Carer Respite Centres can provide Carers with a single point of contact for information and advice on a full range of respite care services and other assistance that is available to support Carers in their special roles.  Carer Respite Centres are a Commonwealth Government Initiative and are funded by the Department of Family and Community Services and the Department of Health and Ageing.

Older Carers Program  
This program is for older people (65 years and older, or 50 years and older if Indigenous), who may be concerned about who will look after their child when they are no longer able to do so.  The person they are looking after must be 18 years or older, and have a permanent disability.  The program can assist with planning for the future, planning a regular break from the caring role, information, a link to services that might be needed now, social support and crisis managmenet.

Carers' Support Service  
The Carers' Support Service provides emotional and practical support to people who care for their frail aged or disabled relatives at home.
The Service helps Carers to recognise the importance of having some 'time out' from their caring responsibilities and offers training, support and infromation together with access to relevant services.
The Carers' Support Service also organises support groups for Carers so they can share common experiences with others in similar situations, and meet new people while taking a short respite break.

Community Visitors Scheme  
Do you enjoy talking to people? Do you have one hour per week to spare? The Community Visitors Scheme is a Federal Government initiative administered by Red Cross in rural areas of WA and some suburbs in the Perth North Metropolitan area. Many residents in nursing homes are isolated and lonely and do not have regular visitors. This program involves a volunteer visiting a resident to provide companionship and support. Times are flexible.

Red Cross plays an especially important role under Western Australia's emergency management arrangements, assisting in a variety of ways to help communities get back on their feet after a disaster has struck.

Family Support Service  

The Family Support program assists families with multiple births and/or where the mother is experiencing, or at risk of postnatal depression.

Family Support offers respite and practical assistance to a parent by placing a trained volunteer into their home to give them a helping hand for approximately 4 hours one day per week. 

Volunteers will be able to use skills and experiences in assisting the parent with child related tasks and offer companionship to families who are isolated. Volunteers are important role models by being confident and competent in working with babies and toddlers, which can make an enormous difference to a family. 

The service currently works with families in Perth, Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton, Dunsborough, Margaret River and Augusta. All new Family Support volunteers need to attend an introduction workshop which will comprehensively cover the role and all aspects of the service. If you would like more information please phone 9225 1946 or email us on wafamilysupport@redcross.org.au

 
Financial Counselling  
The Financial Counselling Service operates within the Town of Kwinana and provides free of charge assistance to people who are experiencing financial difficulties.  Trained counsellors share information on financial issues such as budgeting, managing debt and consumer rights.  Clients are supported as they work through their problems and improve their knowledge and skills of financial matters, so that they are better able to cope with current and future money matters.

FOODcents Program  
This innovative program sees trained Red Cross volunteers providing assistance to families wanting to make  significant diet and lifestyle changes.

Volunteers offer guidance on ways to save money on food shopping, provide information on the healthy eating food pyramid and even teach the family how to prepare and cook easy and tasty meals.

Hands on Care  
Hands on Care involves volunteers providing a relaxing hand and arm massage treatment, often followed by a manicure, to the frail aged, people with disabilities, and people facing long periods of hospitalisation.  The Service operates at residential aged care facilities, and it enables the recipient to enjoy the benefits of tactile contact and personal companionship.  The pampering and one-on-one attention also boosts the recipient's morale and self-esteem.

Lady Lawley Cottage  
Lady Lawley Cottage in Cottesloe provides specialised respite care for children with significant physical and intellectual disabilities. It is the only private service provider of its kind in WA and offers crisis and short-term respite, as well as interim accommodation and pre and post-operative care. Caring for a child with disabilities impacts upon family life and can take its toll on relationships and emotional health. The Cottage enables families to take some well deserved 'time out', with the peace of mind that their child is receiving excellent care.

Practical Support Service  
The Practical Support program helps women who are experiencing, or at risk of, perinatal mental health problems and are facing challenges of looking after a baby or toddler while managing the family home.

This program is aimed at increasing the ability of mothers to cope. This is done by providing support, building skills and improving self-confidence by developing household management and childcare routines and linking in with community support groups and social networks.

Practical Support workers or volunteers visit the family home weekly and work alongside the mother assisting in domestic duties such as light housework, shopping and basic childcare e.g. feeding, settling babies, and preparing meals for children. 

The service currently works with families within the Local Government boundaries of Belmont, Canning and Victoria Park and Bunbury. All new Practical Support volunteers need to attend an introduction workshop which will comprehensively cover the role and all aspects of the service.  If you would like more information please phone the Practical Support Program Coordinator 9225 8808 or email us on wafamilysupport@redcross.org.au
 
Soup Patrol Service  
Every night of the week Red Cross Soup Patrol volunteers serve free evening meals of hot soup and bread to people who are homeless, on very low incomes, or who are socially marginalised. The Service provides over 38,000 meals annually. The Soup Patrol Service operates from designated stops in Perth, Fremantle, Bunbury, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie.

Telecross  
Telecross recruits and trains volunteers to provide a daily telephone call to people who live alone and are at risk of sudden health deterioration.  If the volunteers' call is not answered, a Red Cross staff member arranges for someone to visit the client's home and check on their well-being. The Home and Community Care program in WA provides funding to assist Red Cross in the operation of this service. Telecross currently operates in Perth, Rockingham, Mandurah, Bunbury, Denmark, Geraldton, Mullewa, Narrogin and Kalgoorlie. Over 490 people who are frail aged or with disabilities and live independently receive a reassuring phone call from their Telecross volunteer at the same time each morning.

Will Service  
The Will Service provides the opportunity for people to have a Will professionally prepared at a low cost. Red Cross has established a network of reputable legal firms around the State who are able to make this confidential service available to all people, regardless of age or income. Red Cross does not profit from the making of the Will, however it is hoped that consideration will be given to leaving a bequest to Red Cross within the Will, to ensure the organisation can continue to provide vital services.
