Development programs
Australian Red Cross provides field personnel or other program activities to support the Federation with its work in disaster prevention, disaster relief and development. In addition, Australian Red Cross supports the work of other Red Cross or Red Crescent Societies within their own territory.
Emergency relief
Australian Red Cross reacts to international emergencies by providing personnel and other assitance in response to requests from: the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC); the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (Federation); National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, in particular in the Asia Pacific region.
IHL
International Humanitarian Law (IHL) is part of international law. A major part of IHL is found in the four Geneva Conventions of 1949, by which nearly every State in the world has agreed to be bound.
Operations by countries
Overseas delegates
Australian Red Cross (ARC) delegates have a variety of professional backgrounds and are recruited to work internationally with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (Federation) and on ARC projects. Delegates work in the areas of health, logistics, water and sanitation, project management, HIV/AIDS, disaster preparedness/management and organisational/institutional development.
Tracing & refugee services
The Australian Red Cross Tracing Service is part of the International Red Cross tracing network operating in 178 countries to exchange family news, re-establish contact between family members separated due to conflict or disaster, or clarify the fate of the missing. It is a unique service provided free of charge to the public.
