Our Services
We care for a range of children at Lady Lawley Cottage (LLC). All children within our care have either a disability and/or need medical requirements. LLC adopts stringent admission criteria which allows us to ensure that children in a vulnerable physical or cognitive condition are cared for in a safe environment.

We give priority to children who require:

  • Nursing care who match the LLC admission criteria
  • Post acute hospital convalescence for children with physical, intellectual and/or chronic medical disability
  • Extended accommodation support for clients with a dependency on medical technology
  • Clients with special needs who require short term planned respite support.

We encourage families who require respite care, to make LLC a regular and planned  part of their child’s care. LLC has limited resources, but can provide some support for  their children with challenging behaviours.

Therapy Services

LLC provides a range of therapeutic services for children that help stimulate development and improve motor skills. These services are coordinated by our Physiotherapist and Activities Coordinator and are supported by our staff and hard working volunteers.

LLC also provides outpatient daycentre therapy services. This allows more children to benefit from our expertise and provides greater continuity of care for children who attend LLC on frequent basis.

Information For Parents

Your first visit to Lady Lawley Cottage may be difficult for both you and your child. It may be the distress you are experiencing that causes you to contact us. Like any new situation, it will seem a little strange and unfamiliar.

In addition, you may have conflicting feelings about leaving your child in the care of  others. This is a very normal reaction. Many parents feel guilty and worry whether their child’s special needs will be taken care of. We would like to take this opportunity to  reassure you that your child’s care is our primary interest and that we understand this may be a difficult time for you.

Leaving your child at Lady Lawley Cottage will allow him or her to receive vital services within a caring environment from staff with years of experience.

In many cases, it will also provide you with a much-needed break from the pressures of  caring for your child. Having time to recover will allow you to recharge your batteries, ready to resume the care of your child in a more effective manner. We share your view that respite care is in the best interests of your child, yourself and your family.

Your child may notice your distress over leaving them. Most children settle quickly when you show confidence in your decision to leave them with the caring staff at Lady Lawley Cottage. You can be reassured that your child will be comforted after you have left.
