Volunteering with Australian Red Cross is a chance to step up for humanity and make a real difference in people’s lives.
Whether you're starting out in your career, changing direction or giving back after a lifetime of experience, there’s a place for you here.
From supporting people through disasters and crises, connecting isolated individuals into community programs, to offering migrant support and so much more, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.
As an Australian Red Cross volunteer you’ll gain new skills, meet like-minded people and be a part of the world’s largest humanitarian movement - contributing to something bigger, locally and globally.
Join our movement of over 17,000 members and volunteers across Australia to be there for people and communities, when and where it’s needed most.
Every moment you give makes a difference. Whether it’s a few hours a week, a couple of days a month, or stepping up in times of emergency, your support is needed and valued.
With role-specific inductions and training, and ongoing resources to help you develop your skills, you’ll always have a team ready to guide you.
All backgrounds, all life stages, one mission. Whether you’re retired, working, studying or looking to give back, you can play a vital role via a wide range of volunteering opportunities and time commitments.
You’ll be part of the global Red Cross Red Crescent movement, standing alongside a network of dedicated volunteers who share your passion for helping others.
At Australian Red Cross we offer volunteer roles across a variety of areas including: Emergency Services, Retail, Aged Care Services, Migration Support and Administration.
You will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Australian Red Cross. The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check. Australian Red Cross can assist you to apply for this check.
At Australian Red Cross we are committed to making reasonable adjustments to our volunteer positions to be an inclusive and diverse organisation that gives equal opportunity to those with disability. To discuss how we can best support you, please reach out.
Volunteers positions are not paid, however if flights or accommodation are required Australian Red Cross will arrange and pay for your travel and accommodation. And if you are deployed in an emergency response you will also be reimbursed for your costs associated with meals, taxis and incidentals.
There are several volunteering opportunities that only require 1-3 hours per week. For example, volunteering to make calls for our Aged Care Support programs, providing connection and support to make a difference in someone’s life (commitment is less than 1 hour per week & flexible shifts are available from home). Or you could volunteer in one of our many retail shops across the country (commitment is less than 3 hours per week).
