POSITION TITLE: Emergency Catering Team Member
DEPARTMENT: Emergency Services
POSITION LOCATION: In your own Community
POSITION REPORTS TO: Team Leader or Regional Catering Officer or Deputy
POSITION CONTEXT:
Under the Emergency Management Act of Victoria the Australian Red Cross Victoria is responsible for Co-ordinating emergency catering at State, Regional and if requested municipal levels across the State of Victoria.
The major role of an Emergency Catering Team member is to assist the Regional Catering Officer in meeting the agreed responsibilities of Red Cross as outlined in Victoria's emergency management arrangements.
This is achieved by attending Emergency Catering Activations as requested and providing Meals to all Emergency Service personnel involved in the activation.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:
Co-ordination
* Work cooperatively with Team Leader and other team members at all times, ensuring information is shared.
* Maintain regular contact with the Team Leader or Regional Catering Officer and Deputies, informing them of any periods of unavailability.
* Conduct resource audits as necessary of equipment, local suppliers, facilities etc.
Recruitment, Orientation and Training
* Participate in orientation and team training as required.
* Attend emergency exercises as required.
* Assist and participate in training where possible.
During activations
* Be available whenever possible in the event of an emergency.
* Be prepared for emergencies with appropriate clothing and equipment.
* Adhere to activation procedures as outlined in the Emergency Services manual.
* Ensure you sign on and off and are identifiable (wearing tabards).
* Know whereabouts of First Aid Kit, fire extinguishers and blankets and how to operate them.
* Ensure safe hygiene practices are followed at all times.
* Perform duties in a safe manner, considering safety of others.
* Inform the Team Leader of any unsafe equipment, procedures or practices and report accidents when necessary.
* Work to standard operating procedures.

* Ability to work cooperatively with others.
* Reliability, flexibility and adaptability.
* Availability to be on call in times of emergency.
* Able to work in stressful situations during an emergency.
* Organisational skills.
* Ability to work to the standard operating procedures of Red Cross Emergency Services.
* Knowledge of food preparation and hygiene considerations
* Commitment to Red Cross principles.
Hours of work: Maximum of 6 hour shift (during emergencies)
