Why do we promote IHL?

International Humanitarian Law (IHL) means the 'rules of war'. It is about protecting the victims of war and limiting the suffering caused by war. IHL is outlined in the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols - International treaties to which Australia is a party. The Conventions and Protocols require that their contents be taught as widely as possible. The Australian Government has requested the Australian Red Cross to assist in promoting the Conventions to the Australian community.
For more detailed on-line information about International Humanitarian Law, go to the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) website.
