International Humanitarian Law

International Humanitarian Law (IHL) is a set of rules that, for humanitarian reasons, seeks to limit the effects of armed conflict. It protects those who are not, or are no longer, taking part in fighting, and restricts the means and methods of warfare. Some of the principal instruments are the revised Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols.
