The International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Department conducts various seminars and public forums in an effort to promote International Humanitarian Law.
RED CROSS IHL SEMINAR SERIES - SEMINAR 9 Enforcement: War Crimes Trials and Tribunals
One of the reasons for the 'renaissance' of IHL in recent decades is the way in which it has been transformed into a series of criminal sanctions, enforceable at an international level.
In this seminar Dr Emma Henderson, lecturer in International Law at Latrobe University, will examine some of the key areas of jurisprudence emerging from the ad hoc tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, and the progress towards first cases at the International Criminal Court. Which other hybrid courts now exist and how are they contributing to developing international law?
Time: 6.30 - 8pm Monday 20 October 2008 Cost: $10 to be collected at the door Venue: Australian Red Cross, 23-47 Villiers St North Melbourne VIC 3051 RSVP to Bev Patterson via email at bpatterson@redcross.org.au or call 03 8327 7936.
