Victorian Farmers Federation Get Hay to Farmers With the Help of Australian Red Cross, Victoria.
17 January 2003
The Australian Red Cross, Victoria along with the ANZ Bank, Lions Clubs and Transurban is supporting the Victorian Farmers Federation in transporting subsidised hay to drought stricken farmers throughout the state.

‘Contractors are being engaged to cut, rake and bale hay on private land in areas that have had good rainfall and on public land in order to provide hay at a considerably reduced rate for farmers in desperate need of fodder’ said Australian Red Cross, Victoria Chairman Mr Richard Stone.

‘Whilst some costs are unavoidable, the financial assistance from the Australian Red Cross and other sponsors has meant that contractors are getting some work and at the same time farmers are getting fodder at a greatly reduced price’.

'Support for the program has been widespread and has involved close cooperation between the business and farming communities', according to Victorian Farmers Federation President, Mr Paul Weller.

The ANZ Bank has provided a donation of $10,000, but they are also acting as a clearing house for members of the public who wish to donated hay or transport services' said Mr Weller.

The program will continue for as long as hay is available and those who are interested in donating or receiving hay should contact the Farmers Federation on 03 9207 5564.
