Australian Red Cross, Victoria will be providing first aid support when the world's sporting attention turns to Melbourne during the XVIII Commonwealth Games in March 2006.
As the main support to St John Ambulance, Australian Red Cross volunteers will provide first aid in mixed teams with St John's volunteers and in stand alone teams of Red Cross personnel.
Australian Red Cross will be required to provide 119 qualified first aiders and 15 administration support volunteers per day to provide first aid at sporting venues, public domains and cultural events throughout Victoria. In total 1575 shifts will be filled, utilising more than 200 trained and police-checked volunteers. The Australian Red Cross effort will account for about 20% of the total first aid provided during the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Red Cross will be providing first aid when the world's sporting attention turns to Melbourne.
Much of the action will occur in the regional cities of Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Traralgon and Australian Red Cross will be responsible for managing the first aid for two of these regions.
In addition to our first aid support Australian Red Cross representatives are contributing to a number of Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and state committees which will ensure the smooth running of this international event.
