Kerang Train Crash

On Tuesday 5 June 2007 a semi-trailer collided with a V-Line passenger train at a level crossing near Kerang in north-western Victoria.

Red Cross volunteers were called upon in the hours following the disaster to provide the following emergency services:

  • Emergency First Aid (providing standby first aid at the crash site assisting emergency services personnel and at the relief centre at the Kerang town hall) 
  • Emergency Catering (providing meals for emergency services personnel at the site of the crash, and also at Kerang town hall)
  • Emergency Registration (registering passengers at the Kerang town hall)
  • Personal Support (emotional and practical help at the Kerang town hall and in Melbourne)

Red Cross volunteers and staff travelled from Bendigo, Swan Hill and the surrounding area to assist.
