Kerang Train Crash
On Tuesday 5 June 2007 a semi-trailer collided with a V-Line passenger train at a level crossing near Kerang in north-western Victoria.
Red Cross volunteers were called upon in the hours following the disaster to provide the following emergency services:
Emergency First Aid (providing standby first aid at the crash site assisting emergency services personnel and at the relief centre at the Kerang town hall)
Emergency Catering (providing meals for emergency services personnel at the site of the crash, and also at Kerang town hall)
Emergency Registration (registering passengers at the Kerang town hall)
Personal Support (emotional and practical help at the Kerang town hall and in Melbourne)
Red Cross volunteers and staff travelled from Bendigo, Swan Hill and the surrounding area to assist.
