Telecross Service Volunteers provide the reassurance and contact that makes it possible for vulnerable people across Victoria to live independently for longer in their own home. Many frail, aged or disabled people are prompted to move into supported accommodation because of the worry that: should they have a fall or accident, they may have to wait a long time before help arrives.
Over 300 Telecross volunteers make a regular daily phone call to clients, having a quick chat and checking that they are alright. Should the client be unable to answer the phone, then an emergency procedure is activated which results in someone visiting the home as soon as possible. In addition many clients also appreciate the regular, friendly social contact.
