Program and Position summary: save-a-mate is a program designed to reduce incidences of harm and fatalities associated with substance use in young people through relevant first aid and peer education. The Australian Red Cross save-a-mate Peer Education Program is an interactive, educational program that teaches young people how to recognise, prevent and respond to the occurrence of overdoses, including a nationally accredited cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course. The focus of the save-a-mate peer education program is to equip participants to provide potentially life saving support to their mates, families and others where official first aid providers are not present.  Through the save-a-mate Peer Education program, young people are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves, their friends and others around them.
