Immigration Detention Program - Sewing Group Facilitator
Australian Red Cross (ARC) is a humanitarian organisation dedicated to helping people in crisis.  The International Tracing, Refugee and Asylum Seeker Services (ITRASS) Department works towards re-establishing contact between family members who have been separated by war, conflict or disaster, and providing support and assistance to clients who are seeking asylum in Australia.
The ITRASS department has a range of services dedicated to helping vulnerable members of our community

Through the Immigration Detention Program, the Department has one worker operating three days per week, providing support and assistance to detainees and furthering the humanitarian work of Red Cross in the Maribyrnong IDC.  This worker attends the centre every Wednesday to assist with Red Cross Messages and tracing, social and emotional support, and the delivery of Material Aid.  Material Aid is provided upon request from individual detainees, and often comes in the form of personal care items, stationery and language specific information. Material Aid is intended to enhance the wellbeing of detainees.  As part of its agreement with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), Australian Red Cross also coordinates volunteer- facilitated programs that can benefit detainees.  One such program is the sewing program.
