VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title:             yconnect? Homework Club Convenor – Richmond West

Department:              Youth

Supervisor:                Community Programs Leader

Hours:                       Wednesday 3:30-4:30 during school term. 
                                 Approx. 1 hour per week in addition for
                                 administration and to attend meetings.
                                 

Position Description
The yconnect? Homework Club Convenor is a voluntary position that coordinates the Homework Club volunteers and liaises with the school staff. The position maintains direct regular contact with yconnect? volunteers, ARCV staff and the school staff. The Convenor is also responsible for maintaining volunteer numbers, ensuring volunteers understand their role, are always suitably trained volunteers and abiding by their role .

Selection Criteria - Essential for all Australian Red Cross  positions
* Ensure commitment to the philosophy and principles of Australian Red Cross and the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.
* Adhere to the Seven Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement (being Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality).
* A commitment to a child-safe organisation.
* The successful completion of National Criminal Check and/or Working with Children Check, ability to positively contribute to child safe organisation, and adherence to ARC Child Protection Policies and Practices.

Tasks:
* Work cooperatively with the other Convenors, Volunteers, ARCV Staff and School Staff
* Contribute to the development of program procedures and materials
* Work to ensure that the needs of the clients and volunteers are being met
* Make recommendations about volunteer training and other requirements
* Provide a monthly report to yconnect? Community Programs Leader
* Maintain volunteer records and provide monthly update to VolunteerAdmin Officer on volunteer hours
* Ensure volunteers are abiding by their role (as described in their Position Description)
* Communicate any issues in a timely manner to the Community Programs Leader or the yconnect? Project Officer

Skills and Experience:
Essential
* Interest in providing a humanitarian service, and ability to work within the Fundamental principles of Red Cross
* Understanding of ARCV’s vision and mission to support vulnerable people
* Ability to work within operational policies & procedures, and maintain confidentiality
* Ability to lead and coordinate people and tasks
* Ability to work as part of a team and independently
* Ability to communicate effectively
* Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
* Satisfactory results from a Police Records Check, reference checks and interview

NB: ARCV does not engage volunteers for more than 2 days a week in total.
