On Tuesday 16 May more than 40 Red Cross volunteers received awards for their dedication and service from Mrs Jan de Kretser in her first official host role as the Governor’s Wife.
The spouse of the Governor is traditionally awarded the title of President of Australian Red Cross, Victoria.
These awards include Long Service Awards of 50 and 60 years as well as Honorary Life Membership to the Australian Red Cross.

Mrs Lorraine Fagg is one recipient of the Australian Red Cross Meritorious Service Award. Joining the Australian Red Cross in 1979, Mrs Fagg played a pivotal role in the recent Grampians fires. She led a catering team of 150 volunteers and provided over 10,000 meals to hungry fire fighters and emergency services personnel.
Similarly, Mornington Peninsula resident Mrs Jill Stringer epitomises the Australian Red Cross principle of Voluntary Service. In her region, Mrs Stringer was responsible for launching the Peninsula Patient Transport service which transports people to essential medical appointments, and in her own home began the Mornington Telecross service, which provides a daily phone call to isolated and vulnerable people. | More than 7,800 volunteers throughout the state give their time freely, enabling Australian Red Cross to provide a range of emergency services and community programs. These include serving breakfast to children who may otherwise go without as part of the Good Start Breakfast Club, providing First Aid during a disaster or fundraising for the organisation’s largest annual appeal, Red Cross Calling.
