Australian Red Cross, South Australia was activated last night to support the growing concern of residents in the Patawalonga area and is preparing to go on standby again tonight.
16 volunteers from the Metro West Zone responded willingly, activating the National Reception and Registration Inquiry Service (NRIS) in an Evacuation Centre at Glenelg and the State Inquiry Centre at Marleston.
Concerned residents were put at ease late last night, however, with the continued rains forecast for today, Australian Red Cross is ready to respond by providing immediate financial assistance and NRIS.
“Australian Red Cross, South Australia has over 100 fully trained Disaster Services volunteers who are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide much needed support to people who are placed in disaster situations,” said Dale Cleaver, Executive Director, Australian Red Cross, South Australia.
The Support Centres provide people affected by disaster with a place where they can register their details so concerned family and friends know of their whereabouts. They will also obtain further assistance for any needs as a result of the disaster.
Disaster and Emergency Services response is a key part of Australian Red Cross activities in both metropolitan and regional communities. Australian Red Cross is one of the 16 participating agencies under the State Disaster Plan.
