Be ‘Badged’ this Friday
06 May 2004

Australian Red Cross volunteers will be out and about on Friday May 7 asking South Australians to dig deep for Badge Day.

Over 1,000 volunteers and school students will be hitting the streets in suburban and regional areas as well as the CBD raising funds to help Red Cross continue providing much needed services.

“On Friday, if you see anyone wearing a Red Cross sticker, know that they have contributed to helping the needy right here in our very own state,” said Dale Cleaver, Executive Director of Australian Red Cross, South Australia

Badge Day is a fundraiser run by Red Cross Branches across the state and more than 100 Branches will participate on the day.

This year, three schools are also participating. Unley Primary School will be holding a Dress Red Day where students will be encouraged to make a gold coin donation and St Michael’s and Christian Brothers Colleges will have many students out collecting funds.

“Red Cross assists anyone in need and it is heartwarming to see that volunteers of all ages are keen to support this day and our organisation,” concluded Mr Cleaver.

Red Cross staff and volunteers will be dressing up in vintage uniforms for the evening ‘Pub Crawl’, rattling tins through many hotels in and around the CBD area encouraging patrons to donate.

In 2003, Red Cross Badge Day raised $45,000 for vital community services such as Telecross, Respite, save-a-mate, Transport and Disaster Services.
