Aida depends on Red Cross support
When Aida McDonald was admitted to hospital after collapsing at home and required follow-up treatments, she was anxious about how she would get to and from the hospital.

Then Mrs McDonald, 54 from Aldinga Beach, heard about the Australian Red Cross Transport service.  She was lying in her hospital bed, talking to the lady next to her and was told about the service that Australian Red Cross offers.

'I have heard about the work Red Cross does overseas, but didn't realised the extent of the work that happens right on our doorstep,' said Mrs McDonald.

Mrs McDonald has been using the Transport Service since July 2003 and has nothing but praise for the professionalism of the organisation and the volunteer drivers.

'I am unable to drive and need to attend medical appointments at the Flinders Hospital. The Red Cross service has helped me in so many ways.

'The volunteer drivers are incredibly accommodating to my needs. I have never come across such kind and patient people before. It is just so nice to see that there are people out there who do care for you,' concluded Mrs McDonald.

Australian Red Cross assists over 500,000 people, just like Mrs McDonald, through its local community services. And during March, Australian Red Cross is calling on South Australians for support.

Red Cross Calling is Australian Red Cross' largest door-knock campaign which aims to raise funds so it can continue to support the most vulnerable right here in our community.

'Many people are unaware that Australian Red Cross, South Australia receives less than five percent of its income from government funding. Red Cross Calling generates a significant source of income so that we can continue to assist the most vulnerable right here in South Australia,' said Dale Cleaver, Executive Director of Australian Red Cross, South Australia.
