
As part of the Red Cross Movement, Australian Red Cross provides disaster management support to countries affected by disaster. This includes sending disaster management and relief supplies specialists as well as conducting training in preparation for emergency response.
During a disaster, Australian Red Cross stands ready to support Red Cross National Societies with relief supplies. Australian Red Cross has prepositioned an emergency stock for this purpose.
Brisbane, Australia
Australian Red Cross has the capability to provide emergency support for more than 1,000 families from its Brisbane emergency store in the form of:
- emergency water supply: treatment, storage and distribution of water
- sanitation: emergency latrines and hygiene equipment
- emergency shelter: tarpaulins, shelter tool kits, blankets and kitchen sets
- tropical disease control: protection from mosquitoes and destroying larvae and adult mosquitoes.
This warehouse is used primarily to support the Pacific region, including Australia, to prepare and respond to emergencies. This warehouse is provided by AusAID.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Australian Red Cross is one of the Red Cross Movement Partners who hold stock in the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent warehouse in Kuala Lumpur. From this warehouse the Red Cross Movement has the regional capacity to respond in a disaster delivering sets of predetermined relief items to 5,000 families within 48 hours and a further to 15,000 families within 14 days anywhere in the Asia Pacific region.
