Red Cross response in Darwin

Friday May 26, 2006

Red Cross staff and volunteers are working alongside emergency service organisations in Darwin to register evacuees from East Timor.

Predominantly NGO staff, defence and embassy staff, their details are being entered into the National Registration and Inquiry System operated by Australian Red Cross.

Family and friends seeking information on people being evacuated can contact the Red Cross on 08 8924 3900 to check on the whereabouts of evacuees through the system.

Red Cross staff are also working with centrelink to assess the needs of a small number of East Timorese nationals and other nationals who have arrived in Darwin.
