Australian Red Cross primarily supports the Cambodian Red Cross in its humanitarian contribution to reducing poverty and protecting vulnerable people.
Australian Red Cross began working in Cambodia during the Indo-China conflict of the late 1970s and 1980s.
We continue to support programs that work towards reducing injuries and deaths from the 'remnants of war' - exploding mines and unexploded ordnance.
In more recent times, Australian Red Cross has also increased its involvement in programs that support the prevention of the ever-increasing public health risk of HIV and is working to bring HIV awareness into the mainstream by integrating it into water and sanitation programs.
Today we support long-term development programs in the following areas: |

Survivors photography exhibition
Photographer Somira Sao travelled to Pailin with Red Cross to hear the stories of landmine survivors. Her images are curated here for a photographic exhibition to mark the launch of the AusAID-funded Landmine Survivor Assistance Program, which is managed by Red Cross.

Integrated health
Cambodian Red Cross is developing a new health strategy that focuses on a community-based health development program, integrating water and sanitation, primary health care, maternal and child health and HIV programs. Australian Red Cross is at the forefront of this development and is supporting an integrated water and sanitation and HIV program in rural areas.

HIV and AIDS
Australian Red Cross has supported the Cambodian Red Cross HIV and AIDS awareness program since 1995. After focusing on groups considered to be high risk, including uniformed service personnel and mobile population groups, the Cambodian Red Cross is now working to improve knowledge about HIV and AIDS, and reduce risk for people working in the emerging casino and gambling industry on the border with Vietnam.

Clearing the landmine legacy
Cambodia is severely affected by landmines and explosive remnants of war. Australian Red Cross manages the Landmine Survivor Assistance Program in Cambodia, an AusAID-funded initiative that aims to reduce the vulnerability of landmine survivors, their families and affected communities.
