Red Cross Community Challenge

Making your community a better place

Are you in years 9-12?
Have you identified a 'need' in your community?
Would you like to do something that would be of benefit to your school or community?
If your answer is yes, then you can do a Red Cross Community Challenge project!!

  How do you get started?

Obtain the Red Cross Community Challenge Resource Kit. (See contact information.)
Get together a group of 4-6 students.
Find a mentor, for example a teacher, to act as a guide.
Decide on a project.
Allow 4 to 6 weeks to get organised and complete the project.
The resource kit will guide your group through what to do. The worksheets will help you with the steps involved in making a project happen. It will also give you some project ideas.

Some successful Challenge projects:
  • teaching computer skills to elderly people
  • creating a community garden
  • setting up a school breakfast club
  • organising an eco-recycling activity
  • painting a mural for a nursing home

  The benefits to you:

You gain skills in project management while learning more about the needs of your own community.

You can apply the principles of an international humanitarian organisation to your own community work.
