Young people are an important part of Red Cross. Around 10,000 young Australians are participating in programs and projects that are making a real contribution to communities here and overseas. Check out some of the opportunities below and get involved:
Direct Humanitarian Action
Direct Humanitarian Actions are a diverse suite of engaging and meaningful action opportunities for Red Cross Young Humanitarians to get involved in. Direct Humanitarian Actions are youth led initiatives that operate at either national or local level to support and promote the Red Cross movement and give young people an opportunity to create change in their community. Download the Direct Humanitarian Action brochure.
Youth Leadership Networks
Red Cross Youth Leadership Networks are made up of passionate young people from across the country that work to provide one effective and united voice on issues affecting vulnerable people and their communities, and provide leadership in the delivery of Direct Humanitarian Actions.
Harmony Day
Harmony Day is about community participation, inclusiveness and respect - celebrating the different cultures that make Australia a great place to live. Harmony Day began in 1999 and since then organisations, including Red Cross, have staged more than 25,000 events in support of the day.
save-a-mate
save-a-mate (SAM) develops young people's skills to look after themselves and provide support to their peers by delivering education, training, first aid services and support on health issues, particularly relating to alcohol and other drug use and mental health. SAM has three major areas: 1. Education and training 2. Festivals and events 3. Health promotion and advocacy. Visit the save-a-mate website.
