Then apply now to be a leader for the Remote Communities Holiday program!
The program is held in selected remote communities in the Top End during the June/July and December/January school break. The program hopes to provide positive activities to help alleviate issues associated with youth living in remote communities.
What's involved
Volunteers have the opportunity to take on the position of a positive role model and engage and deliver a variety of activities to young people aged between 5 and 20 years. The program aims to provide a blend of activities including arts, crafts, sport, recreation, music and dance. We hope to enhance participants' confidence, self esteem, team building and problem solving skills through these activities.
The program runs between four and nine days in the community. Applicants are required to arrive in Darwin a day prior to community departure for cultural, child safety and leadership training.
Requirements
Please note that successful candidates will be required to undergo the relevant 'working with children' checks and prohibited declarations. A criminal record may preclude you from participating in this program.
Applications are now open to volunteer on the Remote Communities Holiday Program. The application closing date for the June/July holiday programs is 31st March 2010. As places are limited any applications received after this time unfortunately will not be considered.
Please note: Costs covered include flights to and from the community you have been selected for, accommodation, food and incidentals whilst in the community. Volunteers however must pay their own way to Darwin and any costs associated with staying in Darwin prior to and after the programs.
Interested people under 30 years of age are encouraged to apply, especially those with who have experience, involvement or training working with young people and those who aim to pursue a career within remote communities and those with skills in the arts, music and sport.
