| :: Basic First Aid (Workplace Level 1) |

 |
Description
This course provides the first aider with the knowledge and skills to carry out emergency first aid for life threatening injuries and illnesses, as well as to provide first aid care for injuries and illnesses in the home or in the workplace.
Course content
- chain of survival
- assessing the situation
- signs of life
- performing CPR
- demonstrating the use of an automated external defibrillator
- care of the unconscious person
- special techniques for children and infants
- CPR in special circumstances
- breathing emergencies including choking and asthma
- shock
- severe allergic reaction
- bleeding and wound care
- infection control
- reporting procedures
Prerequisite
There are no prerequisites for this course. Current industry standard is for this course to be updated every 3 years with the CPR component being updated every 12 months.
Course duration
Minimum of 8 hours.
Assessment method
Demonstration of practical skills, role plays, case studies and a written quiz.
Course award
On successful completion of this course participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency from the Health Training Package, HLTFA201A - Provide Basic Emergency Life Support.

This course teaches the fundamental principles, knowledge and skills to enable the first aider to provide emergency care for injuries and illnesses, in the home or the workplace.

The course allows the first aider to update the knowledge and skills gained (within the previous 3 years) and revise first aid procedures. Participants will be updated on changes since their previous Workplace 2 or Senior First Aid Course.

| Purpose and description
This course provides the occupational first aider with the more advanced knowledge and skills to carry out emergency first aid for injuries and illnesses in the workplace. It will also provide information on state and federal legislations as it applies to workplace first aid.
Course content
- apply legislation in the workplace
- manage safety in the workplace
- management of toxic hazards
- care of welfare in the workplace
- care of first aid facilities
- completing documentation
- assessment of a casualty
- bleeding and wound care
- administration of medications
- management of musculoskeletal injuries
- apply principles of triage
- apply first aid management in a confined space
Prerequisite
A current Senior First Aid/Workplace Level 2 Statement of Attainment is a prerequisite for enrolment into this course. Current industry standard is for this course to be updated every 3 years with the Advanced Resuscitation component being updated every 12 months.
Course duration
Minimum of thirty hours.
Assessment method
Demonstration of practical skills, role plays, case studies and a written quiz.
Course award
On successful completion of this course participants will be issued a Statement of Attainment accrediting the following nationally recognised units of competency from the Health Training Package, HLTFA402B Apply advanced first aid, HLTFA403A Manage first aid policy and HLTFA404A Apply advanced resuscitation techniques.

Description
This Advanced Resuscitation course is designed to teach the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain breathing and circulation in an adult, child or infant using various mechanical aids and supplemental oxygen.
Course content
- assess the situation and recognise someone requiring Advanced Resuscitation
- provide oxygen therapy
- operate suction equipment
- demonstrate correct use of AED
- prepare and restore oxygen and AED equipment
- use of bag and mask device and oxygen equipment
- provide reports
Prerequisite
The prerequisite for this course is a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Statement of Attainment (within last 12 months).
Course duration
Minimum three to four hours.
Assessment method
Assessment is ongoing through demonstration of practical skills.
Course award
On successful completion of this course participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency from the Health Training Package, HLTFA404A - Apply Advanced Resuscitation Techniques.
