A brass band, runway models and the PM's wife all added to the fanfare for the launch of National Op Shop Week in Sydney.

Australia's charity op shops are encouraging us all to 'Op Till You Drop!'.

Jon Dee, the Founder of National Op Shop Week says "Charity op shops play a key role in delivering community services right across Australia, indeed, many Australians rely on the support and assistance provided by our charity op shops.

Red Cross Shops Community Engagement Manager, Kate Dear says "Shopping at a Red Cross Shop encourages the community to 'reduce, reuse and recycle' which in turn reduces landfill waste. Our 147 shops rescue 450 tonnes of clothing from landfill each year.

"There's a Red Cross Shop to appeal to everyone, from Superstores and traditional opportunity shops to boutique, high street stores.

"All items purchased at Red Cross shops help support the everyday work of Red Cross such as bushfire and flood relief, providing safe drinking water and sanitation for remote communities, assisting new immigrants and ringing isolated or elderly people to check on their welfare.
