About MYOP
Arriving in an unknown country for the first time can be a daunting experience, especially for young people. Language barriers, cultural idiosyncrasies and social differences can be considerable challenges.
MYOP is an educational support service which aims to assist newly-arrived young people in adapting and contributing to Australian life.
MYOP encourages students to learn about life in Australia, providing information about the role of different community agencies, police, TAFE, universities and medical services, as well as information about accessing a wide range of community services.
Although the Migrant Youth Orientation Program is funded by the NSW Department of Community Services, resources for this program are always needed.
The program
Students participate in a number of excursions and site visits, which enable them to understand how to access a variety of community services. Students also attend a minimum of eight sessions, including an introductory session and others encompassing educational, well-being and recreational issues.
The program currently operates in metropolitan Sydney, through three participating Intensive English Centres, with plans for future development.
