Celebrations at the Townsville Wellbeing Centre

Celebrations have been held for a unique Red Cross accommodation service which has been a local home away from home for 28,000 people over the past 10 years.

The Townsville Red Cross Wellbeing Centre turns 10 years old this month. The 43-bed centre adjoining the Townsville Hospital offers quality low-cost accommodation for patients and their families who might otherwise have nowhere else to stay while they're receiving treatment, sometimes for extended periods.

The wellbeing centre service model places personal wellness as central, with on-site and referral to a range of services in an inclusive, healing, culturally appropriate and safe environment

Most of the guests are from rural and remote regions who pay nothing to stay here if they are eligible for Queensland Health's Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme.
