Harmony Day: play, engage, inspire!

Celebrate cultural diversity and be in the running to win a great prize for your school or community!

Wednesday March 21, 2012

Red Cross is encouraging schools, youth groups and communities all over Australia to take up the challenge to celebrate cultural diversity this Harmony Day, 21 March.

By signing up for Red Cross' Y Challenge - celebrating diversity program, schools and community groups are eligible to win a fabulous digital media pack containing a 16GB Apple iPad 2 and a Flip Next Gen 8GB video camera.

Simon Rickard, Red Cross National Coordinator for Youth Engagement, says: "This year's Harmony Day theme is to play-engage-inspire!'.

"Red Cross is delighted to continue supporting the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to help promote the message of Harmony Day. Young people have always been a valued part of Red Cross and have an increasingly important role to play in promoting diversity and supporting Red Cross' commitment to respect cultural, racial and religious differences.

"The Red Cross Y Challenge - celebrating diversity resources provide teachers and parents with ideas and activities that they can do on Harmony Day. We'd like to encourage all schools and as many young people as possible to get on board, take up the Y Challenge and enter the competition."

The Y Challenge program is aimed at young people between the ages of 8 and 17. Every team is supported by a mentor - usually a teacher, university or TAFE student. Harmony Day entries close on the 8th of April and the winners will be announced on the 20th of April.
