Australian Red Cross has been named a finalist for a top HR industry award for excellence in developing the talent and capability of our workforce of staff and volunteers.

Red Cross has been recognised as having one of Australia's best learning and development programs, supporting the talent and capability of our staff, and even our volunteers!
The Australian Human Resources Institute Marshall Goldsmith Talent Development Award was awarded in Sydney on Tuesday 2 December. Australian Red Cross was one of six finalists, and the only not-for-profit to be acknowledged in this category.
Director Human Resources, Chris Steinfort said, "It's affirming to see Red Cross being recognised alongside some of Australia's most well known brands: Westpac, Suncorp Group, Heritage Bank, Medibank and Civeo."
"Red Cross attracts highly competent, talented and motivated individuals and we want to ensure that we foster their talent, and build their capability so that they can truly make a difference while working with us.
"We have a workforce of more than 3,000 staff and 30,000 volunteers and our people are our greatest asset. They are absolutely critical in terms of our reach into communities in Australia and further afield.
"We are focused on giving our workforce opportunities to upskill and grow professionally, and in a not-for-profit environment that requires a mix of innovation and ingenuity because we operate in a leaner environment than larger commercial organisations. We are absolutely delighted to be recognised nationally for this work," he said.
Red Cross' Workforce Development Plan has seen the development of a nationally consistent induction program, online learning and skills development programs. In the last year alone, 86% of managers and team leaders, and over 800 team members have enrolled in one of many programs.
Supporting future leaders is a priority and since the introduction of the Emerging Leaders Program 69 managers - both staff and volunteers - have participated, with 25% of those having either acted or been appointed to significant leadership roles since completing the program.
To encourage staff to pursue further education relevant to their role, a Study Assistance Policy means staff can access paid leave, all while hitting the books, studying at the library and attending lectures and tutorials.
Red Cross' partnerships with Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander communities over the last decade, has seen the development of a cultural competency framework and comprehensive training in recent times, so that staff are aware of the issues affecting Indigenous communities.
