Medibank's community engagement arm, Medibank Community Fund, has become a National Community Preparedness Partner of Australian Red Cross.
The Medibank Community Fund partnership with Australian Red Cross has a dual focus. In addition to contributing funds to disaster relief and recovery efforts, the partnership will help Red Cross inform and educate communities across Australia as they prepare and plan for disasters. Being prepared for an emergency can help people get back on their feet more quickly if one is to occur.
Over the coming 12 months, the support provided by Medibank Community Fund will help Red Cross:
- Improve our ability to target and work with communities around Australia that are at most risk of disasters such as cyclones, bushfires or floods.
- Work with other agencies to help households plan and prepare for emergencies.
- Support the training of specialist aid workers for deployment during international emergencies.
- Help Medibank employees prepare their own households through Red Cross' household preparedness plan, REDiPlan.
Australian Red Cross' National Emergency Services Manager, Andrew Coghlan, said, "Our important work in the community before, during and after disasters is only possible with the support of partner organisations like Medibank.
The funds provided will help us expand and deliver preparedness programs such as REDiPlan a community education program that assists people make informed choices about preparing for emergencies."
