Many Stories - One Australia
Red Cross is proud to support Harmony Day held annually on 21 March by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
Harmony Day is also about getting to know one another, celebrating our similarities and recognising our differences, a belief Red Cross holds strong. 2015 will be the 15th year that Australia will celebrate Harmony Day, and the key message will be 'Everyone Belongs'.
Each year, Red Cross supports schools and youth groups across Australia in celebrating Harmony Day by taking part in the 'Y Challenge - Celebrating Diversity' program and entering the Red Cross Harmony Day Awards.
Y Challenge - Celebrating Diversity
Y Challenge is a free Red Cross program that supports teams of young people between 8 and 17 years of age to complete youth-led community projects within their school or wider community.
Y Challenge projects are driven by young people and are designed to deliver what a community wants. As such what a Y Challenge project looks like, how long it lasts and who is involved will all depend on the Y Challenge team and the community it interacts with.
Resources are provided by the Red Cross to support both Y Challenge teams and mentors in completing their Y Challenge projects. This year we have also added the 'And then I was a refugee …' app to our resources section for you to download for free.
Red Cross Harmony Day Awards
Every year Red Cross showcases young people helping to build a more harmonious and inclusive society through the Red Cross Harmony Day Awards.
Red Cross encourages all schools and as many young people as possible to get on board, take up the Y Challenge and enter the competition.
In recent year's participants have come up with really creative projects. We had an amazing variety of entries from all over Australia, including a rap song, a community dress-up event and a project to make five hundred Harmony Day dolls.
