Hands on Care Volunteer

As a Hands on Care Volunteer, you will provide social activities including hand massage, board games, reading or letter writing to elderly people in residential care facilities.

  • Various  positions available across QLD
  • Ongoing, minimum 3 month commitment
  • 2 hours per week

As a Hands on Care Volunteer, you will provide social activities including hand massage, board games, reading or letter writing to elderly people in residential care facilities.

Hands on Care duties include:

Hand massage: Clients of this service enjoy quality time with volunteers who may provide hand massages and manicures in and effort to alleviate anxiety, loneliness and boredom, and boost morale of clients. The service enables the recipient to enjoy the benefits of social contact and personal companionship.   

Social Support: Clients of this service enjoy quality time with volunteers who may provide a range of social support services such as providing magazine and trolley services, writing reading board games and visiting in an effort to alleviate anxiety, loneliness and boredom, and boost morale of clients.  The service enables the recipient to enjoy the benefits of contact and personal companionship. 

You must be a good listener and able to communicate well with older people. You should respect confidentiality and be comfortable working in a health care environment.
