Australian Red Cross welcomes the Federal Government's decision to establish a Productivity Commission inquiry into national disaster funding arrangements in 2014.

Red Cross, as a member of the Australian Roundtable for Disaster Resilience and Safer Communities, has long championed increased spending on pre-disaster resilience to build strong and safer communities.

The Government's announcement is a positive response to the Business Roundtable's 'Building our Nation's Resilience to Natural Disasters' White Paper, which called on governments to invest in cost effective disaster preparedness and community resilience, rather than a limited focus on post disaster response.
