First aid really does saves lives

You never know when you're going to need first aid.

John Moore completed Red Cross first aid training in February this year, and just two weeks later witnessed a car accident.

"I was 10 metres away when a bus clipped a car, which ran off the road at high speed into a pole. My first thought was I can do something and my first aid skills kicked in," says the Adelaide man.

"I checked for danger around the car before approaching the elderly driver. I put my hand on his shoulder and thankfully he was conscious but having trouble breathing. After turning the car off, I called triple-0 and stayed on the phone until the ambulance arrived."

John says he's grateful to the experienced Red Cross trainer who taught him first aid. "Because of the training I didn't panic or hesitate because I knew what to do.

"I think first aid training is an important skill to have because you never know when you might need it."
