The Every Child Deserves Every Chance initiative launched today is calling on leaders to work together to change the way we address the issues that impact on children and the community.

Central Queensland is renowned for its fabulous environment, friendly people, great lifestyle and wide variety of industry, career and educational opportunities.

But beneath the surface issues confronting local children include concerning levels of childhood obesity, low birth-weight babies, nearly double the Australian rate of teen pregnancies, high youth unemployment, higher levels of domestic and family violence, and lower levels of school attainment.

The Every Child Deserves Every Chance initiative is looking for leaders from all levels of government and non-government organisations, from community and church groups, industry, small and large, business organisations and from everyday citizens to be part of a group committed to change. It has been developed by liveWELL CQ whose members include Anglicare, Bidgerdii Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service, Centacare, Central Queensland Rural Health, Medicare local, CQ University, Relationships Australia, the Queensland Government and Australian Red Cross.

Janeen Miesch, Regional Manager, Australian Red Cross and liveWELL CQ member said the relationships in the community services sector have never been so strong.

"There's never been such willingness and drive to fill gaps, prevent crises in people's lives and to do more by working together," she said.

"Those of us working in the community services sector know we're not alone in caring for our communities. We are more than ever before, asking people in other industries to work with us on the solutions.

"I'm in, and Red Cross is in!"

Addressing the launch, Red Cross Queensland Group Manager Matthew Cox said all adults have a responsibility to ensure children have every chance to lead happy, healthy and successful lives.

"Red Cross is keen to be involved in line with our work with communities around Australia to foster safe, strong and resilient families where children learn and reach their full potential."

Today's launch of Every Child Deserves Every Chance, supported by Stanwell Power Station, took place via video link in the Central Queensland cities of Rockhampton, Gladstone, Biloela and Emerald.

It brought together prominent business, industry and community leaders who are willing to step up to the challenge of building a brighter future for Central Queensland children.
