Humanitarian Aid Work & Development Programs
With high seasonal rainfall and abundant natural springs, Timor-Leste has the natural resources to become a successful and prosperous nation. However, the tiny island nation is one of the poorest countries in the Asia-Pacific region and faces development issues across every sector. Water and sanitation is a significant issue, along with violence, gender disadvantage, access to health services and vulnerability to earthquakes, drought, flooding, cyclones, tsunamis and landslides.
Through humanitarian aid and development programs, we are working closely with Timor-Leste Red Cross Society to give this young country the equipment, training and financial support it needs to provide a happy and healthy life for its people.
Water and sanitation
Providing water for remote villages, Timor-Leste Red Cross technicians work alongside community volunteers, with support from Australian Red Cross.
Locals invest the time and skills to help set up and maintain water and sanitation systems in their village.
A highly skilled, local Red Cross water team stays in the village to assist and oversee the construction. Our teams also promote better hygiene by training local volunteers in community based first aid.
