Australian Red Cross would like to inform the public that no emails have been sent by British Red Cross soliciting donations for the victims of the London transport bombings.
A small number of people have contacted the organisation after receiving phony emails seeking donations on behalf of British Red Cross.
The CEO of Australian Red Cross, Robert Tickner said these emails were a hoax.
Mr Tickner said it was shocking that anyone would seek to profit from the terrorist attacks which caused so much pain and suffering.
Anyone who receives such a message should delete it immediately, without responding to it or providing any personal details.
Australian Red Cross has placed a warning on our website and is contacting police authorities in Australia and colleagues from the British Red Cross.
If anyone does wish to support victims of the London bombings, they can do so safely through the official British Red Cross website, www.redcross.org.uk , which has a secure on-line facility for donations.
Mr Tickner said donating online was secure and safe, but people should be as vigilant when donating online as they would be when using Internet banking.
