Red Cross has teamed up with Bunnings Warehouse to help celebrate its 100th birthday in Australia, announcing a national Red Cross Centenary Fundraiser BBQ on Saturday 9 August 2014 at Bunnings stores across the country.

Today Australian Red Cross CEO Robert Tickner welcomed the support of Bunnings, giving Australian communities across the country an opportunity to help Red Cross to continue its everyday work helping Australians in need.

"Red Cross is delighted that Bunnings has agreed to help us celebrate 100 years of people helping people in local communities across Australia," said Robert Tickner.

"The Centenary Fundraiser BBQ is a great opportunity to recognise the contributions of Australians to the first one hundred years of Red Cross, raise much needed funds, and build community support to ensure we continue serving the Australian community for the next 100 years.

"Over 100 years Red Cross has grown to become a strong, national organisation with around one million dedicated Red Cross members, volunteers, donors and supporters helping people in need. Now more than ever, we rely on generous public support.

"Bunnings has earned an admirable reputation for supporting causes and organisations that benefit their local communities, and Red Cross is thrilled that we will have a nationwide presence at Bunnings stores to celebrate our 100th birthday.

"We encourage everyone to head to their local Bunnings on Saturday 9 August to enjoy a sausage sizzle while supporting our community programs helping Australians in need.

"We look forward to holding fundraising sausage sizzles and to showcasing the vital everyday work of Red Cross at Bunnings stores around Australia on Saturday 9 August, helping to build support for the years ahead," said Robert Tickner.

Not only will Bunnings provide the venue for the Centenary Fundraiser BBQs nationally, they have also agreed to donate all the essential ingredients that'll make the much loved Aussie snag - an estimated 100,000 sausages!

Red Cross volunteers will be staffing every BBQ around the country, ready to chat to locals about the vital everyday work they do helping people in our communities, as well as celebrating 100 years of people helping people.
