Australian Unity has a proud history of working to improve community wellbeing through the Australian Unity Foundation. Established in 2006, the Foundation helps staff and members back worthwhile community activities. Each year, nominated groups are awarded grants so they can continue their vital work. To date, Australian Unity Foundation grants have contributed more than $900,000 to the community.
Australian Red Cross is a recipient of the Australian Unity Foundation grant for 2012. The grant will aid in the rollout of TeleCHAT in regional New South Wales, providing an ongoing social connection and link to the community for people who are socially isolated and disadvantaged. In the program, participants are matched with a trained volunteer who phones them at least once a week at an agreed time. Over time, participants feel more confident and develop greater connectedness to the broader community.
Australian Unity staff also supports Australian Red Cross through the Australian Unity Workplace Giving program. All Workplace Giving donations made by staff through their salary are dollar-matched by Australian Unity.
