Neville Jetta

Melbourne AFL Football Club player
Australian Red Cross Ambassador

I'd like to show young Indigenous kids that they are not alone, that I have had similar experiences to them and I know what it's like.

Neville Jetta is a Melbourne Demons AFL Club player, who is passionate about giving back to the community. Neville is an impressive role model for all young people, and for more than one hundred Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Red Cross staff and the many people we work with in Indigenous communities across Australia. In 2016 he was recognised as a finalist in the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award at the Brownlow medal in 2016 for his outstanding community service. He is passionate about volunteering and helped us thank our 35,000 amazing members and volunteers on International Volunteering day.

Neville's motivation to become a Red Cross ambassador was to use his growing success on the field to mentor young offenders to help them turn their lives around. Neville volunteers at a Red Cross justice program at Parkville Youth Justice centre in Melbourne, where he plays friendly games of sports with clients to encourage positive social interaction and to help them feel connected to their community. "I'd like to show young Indigenous kids that they are not alone, that I have had similar experiences to them and I know what it's like," he has said.

Neville also helps motivate our team of everyday heroes who support Red Cross by competing in challenge events, such as marathons and fun runs, to raise much needed funds to support our everyday work in communities.

Neville made these great videos to inspire more than 1,000 Red Cross supporters to prepare for running the 2015 Melbourne Marathon Festival:
