Leading orthopaedic surgeon and former refugee
Australian Red Cross Ambassador
Dr Munjed Al Muderis is a pioneering orthopaedic surgeon giving amputees the ability to walk, but his journey was filled with the same hardships shared by those who are forced to flee their home and seek asylum in a new country.
His personal story of fleeing Iraq and coming to Australia as a refugee makes him a powerful advocate for our humanitarian work supporting vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees. Dr Al Muderis is also keen to serve Red Cross as an aid worker in the capacity of a surgeon, when needed in times of disaster.
In this interview Munjed explains why he supports Red Cross. (Read the transcript.)
On 28 July 2015 Red Cross Ambassador Dr Munjed Al Muderis spoke on a panel at a live screening event held in Sydney to kick off SBS' new series of Go Back To Where You Came From, where he was joined by a panel of guest speakers from the series. (See the full story.)
Munjed told a story about seeking asylum, when an official broke the law and risked his job so Munjed could call his mum from Christmas Island.
