‘I have loved and learned from every minute volunteering with Red Cross, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. Volunteering with young Sudanese refugees in Perth to help deal with mental health issues, and volunteering overseas at a refugee camp near the Congo, have been some of the best experiences of my life.
‘Thank you for the individual honour, but I hope people are aware this is the tip of the iceberg! Young people are doing amazing things in Red Cross, serving breakfast to kids in disadvantaged communities, addressing the humanitarian impact of climate change, and linking up with Red Cross and Red Crescent youth in other countries.’
He has been the Red Cross National Youth Representative and Chairperson of the National Youth Advisory Committee for two years and a Red Cross volunteer for five years, most recently as a member of the Red Cross Board’s National Tracing, Refugee and Asylum Seekers Advisory Committee.
